Consulting Experience

Here is my consulting portfolio. This includes research consultations and relevant teaching experiences.

Professional Consulting Experiences

Thrive Center’s “Shades of Gratitude” Project (2022)

What did I help with? I was brought in after data collection to conduct all inferential statistics for a grant-funded project investigating how a person perceives gratitude from others. I explored competing statistical models to identify group differences and relationships between predictor and outcome variables.

Pathways to Well-Being During COVID-19 in US, Iran, and China (2020-2022)

What did I help with? I provided methodological insight in designing and collecting data for a multi-nation survey study investigating the psychological well-being and quality of life of people during the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. I cleaned the data set and utilized structural equation modeling to investigate original and new research questions. Results were presented at multiple conferences (see here for a relevant example), and the data was accepted for publication in Data in Brief.

Untitled Leadership During the Transition to Emergency Remote Learning Research Project (2022)

What did I help with? I reanalyzed data using ANOVAs, multiple regression analyses, and path analyses. This allowed the lead research to gain insights on original and new research questions regarding leader humility, leader effectiveness, and leadership satisfaction.

The Effects of Age, Gender, and Preconceived Attitudes towards Sexual Assault on Memory (2022)

What did I help with? I reorganized and reanalyzed data from two experiments investigating how participants’ recall of a sexual assault and allocation of blame towards a perpetrator or victim differed by the type of interaction (e.g., heterosexual or same-sex) or aspects of the observer (e.g., age, gender, and their rape myth acceptance). I ran ANOVA, correlation, and regression analyses.

Ad-hoc Reviewers for Academic Journals and Psychology Conferences (2022)

What did I help with? I reviewed over 70 submissions for publication in social, organizational, and general psychology journals. This includes Current Psychology, the Journal of Applied Social Psychology, and Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied. I have also reviewed for the Society for Personality and Social Psychology’s annual graduate poster, undergraduate poster, and outstanding student research awards.

PhD Dissertation Projects

I consulted for 18 PhD Dissertation Projects since 2018.

  • Project topic areas spanned social psychology, cognitive psychology, organizational psychology, positive psychology, evaluation, education, and political science
  • Consulting responsibilities include:
    • Scoping quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research needs
    • Developing research based on theoretical, methodological, logistical, and candidate-and stakeholder-specific goals
    • Data analyses and interpretation in R and SPSS, including: t-tests, chi-square analyses, ANOVAs, correlations and multiple regressions, multi-level regressions and growth curve modeling, path analyses, factor analyses, and structural equation modeling
    • Troubleshooting methodological and statistical issues and offering corrections or alternative paths for data collection or analyses

My consulting led PhD Candidates to move on to the data collection stage (if they did not already have data) or discussion and implications stage (if they already had data).

Master’s Theses and Graduate-level Research Projects

I consulted and advised multiple graduate-student led research projects and proposals. Consulting experiences include:

  • Providing peer mentorship to MA and PhD students regarding scientific research, project development, and professional well-being
  • Advising or co-advising eight end-to-end research projects from idea generation to data interpretations and implications
  • Providing theoretical, methodological, and data analysis plan insights for multiple masters theses before data collection
  • Providing guidance for data analysis and interpretations in R, SPSS, and jamovi regarding t-tests, chi-square analyses, ANOVAs, correlations and multiple regressions, binary and multinominal logistic regression, multi-level modeling and growth curve analyses, path analyses, factor analyses, and structural equation modeling

I received the Dale Berger Award for Achievement in Statistics for my mentorship and department contributions. Students were able to advance with their research projects en route to their academic and professional goals.

Teaching and Teaching Assistant Experiences

Overview

I taught psychological statistics and theory-based classes to community college students at a Hispanic Serving Institution from 2017 to 2022. Highlights include:

  • Teaching students how to interpret data from descriptive and inferential statistical analyses in R and SPSS
  • Relating statistical applications to social and behavioral research questions and applied insights
  • Teaching students in both in-person and synchronous online formats

I have also served as a teaching assistant for graduate-level theory, methodological, and statistical classes. Highlights include:

  • Assisting in the teaching of social psychological theory classes, including:
    • Group Processes and Intergroup Relations
    • Self and Identity
    • Extremism in Society
  • Assisting in the teaching of methodological and statistics classes, including:
    • Survey Research Methods
    • Longitudinal Research Methods
    • Factor Analyses and Structural Equation Modeling

Feedback

I received two teaching and mentorship awards for my teaching and mentorship abilities. Representative feedback of my teaching includes:

  • They changed my mind about stats and made me feel at ease and not scared of Statistics
  • Jeff was always positive and even when we experienced bumps in the road, always framed it in a positive light and helped us look for solutions. He was always very willing to meet with us and capable of explaining complex concepts in a simple and easy-to-understand way.
  • Absolutely everything! He was the most helpful and supportive TA I have ever had!
  • Their understanding of statistics and data analysis was above and beyond the level of most TAs let alone teachers. Having his knowledge as a resource when we had questions or hit snags was amazing.
  • Jeff was amazing! They went above and beyond to help our group work through areas of confusion and learn new skills. They incorporate social-emotional learning competencies seamlessly into their work as a TA
  • This class has been one of the most amazing classes I have ever taken
